ÁÄÑ EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 scope:

The International Standard ÁÄÑ EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 is applied all over the world as a criterion for demonstrating the competence of laboratories performing testing and/or calibration, as well as sampling for subsequent testing/calibration.
The standard defines the general requirements for the competence, impartiality and consistency of the work of laboratories and is applicable to:

  • organizations that have laboratories in their structure, performing testing/calibration/sampling, regardless of their size and number of their staff;
  • competent and regulatory bodies (EA BAS, SAMTS) and other subdivisions;
  • customers.
The Third edition of the standard covers the changes in market conditions and technologies (including information), innovations in the laboratory research.
The 2018 edition of the standard has a new structure, that introduces the process approach and risk-based thinking and focused on the results of a process.

The new edition of the standard provides two options for the laboratory management system:
  • Option A – the controls must cover at least the requirements of points 8.2 to 8.9 of ÁÄÑ EN ISO/IEC 17025
  • Option B – integration of the requirements of ÁÄÑ EN ISO/IEC 17025 in the quality management systems implemented according to ISO 9001 "Quality management systems. Requirements".

What are the benefits of implementing and maintaining a management system in accordance with the requirements of ÁÄÑ EN ISO/IEC 17025?
The standard:

  • facilitates cooperation between laboratories and other bodies (e.g., inspection bodies, certification bodies, etc.);
  • facilitates access to markets by accepting laboratory results when providing products and services in the supply chain;
  • ensures the competitiveness of laboratories and can be used as proof of personal competence;
  • ensures the introduction of mechanisms for detecting gaps and deviations in activities and processes;
  • ensures the implementation of measures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness and achieve the desired goals and results;
  • provides a reliable mechanism for decision-making and risk management.

Documents issued by accredited laboratories (protocols, certificates, reports) can be accepted without the need for proving, which is a prerequisite for improving international trade. The laboratory results are used as a guarantee for the reliability of the activities that affect public confidence, health and safety, the environment;
