The international standard ISO 22716 provides guidelines for the production, control, storage and shipment of cosmetic products.
The standard describes the basic principles for the application of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in the cosmetics industry.
Good manufacturing practice is a practical evaluation of the idea of Quality assurance by describing business activities and is based on accurate decisions and risk assessment.
ISO 22716 is a set of practical guidelines, rules and organizational directions for the management of human, technical and administrative factors that affect product Quality. These guidelines are designed to track the product flow of from receipt to shipment.

In order to clarify the way to achieve the objectives of the standard, in each main section a part Principle has been additionally introduced.
The purpose of the guidelines of ISO 22716 Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is to determine the activities that make it possible to obtain a final product that meets some specifications.
The standard provides guidance on product Quality, but generally does not include aspects of the health and safety on work and of the Environment. ISO 22716 does not apply to research and development activities or the distribution of cosmetic products.
